In March 2020, the circular red restaurant at the southeastern end of the Golden Gate Bridge known as the Round House Cafe shuttered. The Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy, which operated the cafe, announced the closure just before the pandemic shutdowns, citing “significant challenges in food preparation services.”

But now, another business will breathe new life into the historic building that first opened in 1938 as a roadside diner.

HVAC collapse forces closure of Crisis Center

Jun. 23—A collapsing air conditioning unit last Thursday at their at 1924 Broadway location in Great Bend has caused a crisis for the Family Crisis Center. The office that houses its Domestic and Sexual Violence Center, Child Advocacy Center and administrative staff was forced to close with no admittance allowed, said center Executive Director Joanne Wondra.

“This unexpected closure has brought many questions,” she said. But, she stressed, “we’re still here.”

Leitz opened the business she calls The Lake House Retreat this spring, after spending the previous four months renovating it with the help of friends and family. The Lake House Retreat is available for rent to individuals or groups for whatever length of time they want to spend there.

Heidel House Hotel and Conference Center reopens with modern renovation

GREEN LAKE, Wis. (WBAY) – The Heidel House Hotel and Conference Center is once again open, now with a modern twist.

After being closed for two years, the Green Lake resort opened its doors on June 4 with a multi-million-dollar makeover. The property has been redeveloped by Lighthouse Hotel Development Group, a division of Lighthouse Hospitality Group, and is owned by Green Lake Hotel Group. Consolidated Construction Co. Inc. was the general contractor on the project.
