Life House’s New Miami Beach Property Kicks Sustainability Efforts Up A Notch

Life House is at it again. This time, the boutique hospitality brand is expanding its presence in Miami Beach with the opening of South of Fifth. And in true Life House fashion, the company has taken a 1930s Tudor-style cottage set in an otherwise Art Deco neighborhood and transformed it into a modern-day traveler’s haven. But perhaps even more intriguing than the property’s history, neighborhood, or 27 guest rooms is its sustainability efforts.

“Our South of Fifth House and its bar and restaurant, Pretty Swell, are particularly special to me as they pay homage to the spiritual power of the ocean and enable our sustainability initiatives to be truly genuine,” says the founder and CEO of Life House, Rami Zeidan. “We designed this place to be an artist’s eclectic beach cottage retreat and developed Pretty Swell to speak to the oceans power to help us understand our universal belonging to this earth and the importance of protecting it.”

For Zeidan, every detail of the property must give back to nature, like ensuring that it’s plastic-free, hosting monthly beach clean-ups, partnering with only sustainable retailers (like Mavrans, Vacation, and Vital Tonics), and beyond. “The proximity to the ocean and the distance from the noise of South Beach make the Ocean reminiscent of an oceanic Walden’s Pond of sorts. We dove deep with our sustainability initiatives from our Lion Fish ceviche that naturally restores their ecosystems to our super juicing practices that eliminate bar waste. We really hope that our guests will feel this connection to the ocean and that they’ll take these subtle learnings to permeate and suffuse the universe when they leave.”

Located at 321 Collins Avenue in Miami Beach, South of Fifth starts at $225 per night and can be reserved online. Life House also has planned property openings in the Berkshires and Palm Springs—but more on that to come!
