Springfield coffee house serves up last cup of Joe until it finds a new address
Wm. Van’s Coffee House served its last cup of Joe from the former Maisenbacher House last Sunday. But – as the Lincoln-era residence can attest – new life can be found in seeking a new address.
A spokeswoman for Conn Hospitality Group – which owns both the coffee house brand and the brick Italianate at 503 S. Seventh St. – said Wm. Van’s Coffee House will be revamped and relocated. The new address and a timeline to reopen, however, have not been disclosed.
The hospitality group plans to open a yet-to-be named cider house at the Seventh Street address, the spokeswoman said.

Wm. Van’s Coffee House operated eight years from the former residence, which the original owners built with the help of a $650 loan from Abraham Lincoln. The historic house originally sat at 1028 S. Seventh St., but was moved five blocks to its current location in 2009.
