Kanye West has a good reason for buying a house across the street from Kim Kardashian
After months of rapper Kanye West claiming to be intentionally homeless after moving out of the home he shared with his soon-to-be ex-wife, Kim Kardashian, it was recently revealed that he’s purchased a home in California, right across the street from the home of Kim, with whom he shares four children.

The news comes a few months after Kim purchased their shared Hidden Hills estate from him as a part of their ongoing divorce proceedings, and now Ye has reportedly purchased the $4.5 million property across the street so that he can be closer to their kids, North, Saint, Chicago and Psalm.
Ye bought the house for above asking price.

Kanye purchased his new property for nearly half a million dollars more than the $4,079,000 list price, despite the fact that the residence itself is reportedly a “[teardown](https://people.com/home/kanye-west-buys-home-across-from-kim-kardashian-to-be-near-kids/).” He purchased the home with a $400,000 down payment.
He wants to be close to the kids.
“It made perfect sense for him to have a place near the kids,” [a source](https://www.eonline.com/news/1314501/why-kanye-ye-west-really-bought-the-house-across-the-street-from-ex-kim-kardashian) told *E!*. “He scooped it up right when it hit the market in early December and the escrow closed right before Christmas.”
He’s going to start remodeling “ASAP.”
“Kanye’s new house is a teardown. He only bought it for the location. It’s near Kim and the kids. He has a vision for the house and plans on starting construction ASAP,” [another source](https://people.com/home/kanye-west-buys-home-across-from-kim-kardashian-to-be-near-kids/) told PEOPLE.
It’s all about the family.
“It will be family-friendly. He wants to be able to have the kids over as much as possible. Living only in Malibu was making visits more tricky for Kanye,” the PEOPLE source revealed. After Kim purchased the Hidden Hills home from him for the same amount they originally paid for it years ago and listing his Cody, Wyoming estate for sale, Kanye bought a [home in Malibu](https://www.the-sun.com/entertainment/4136484/kanye-west-malibu-mansion-renovate-divorce-kim-kardashian/), where he’s been staying when he’s not traveling.
Kanye tackles homelessness.
Back in October, Kanye who is a bonafide billionaire, said during an interview for the *Drink Champs* podcast, that he was “[homeless](https://www.yahoo.com/now/kanye-drink-champs-interview-only-184449740.html)” on purpose. Then, in December, he told a European news outlet that he plans to be homeless in a year. “I’m going to be homeless in a year. I’m going to turn all the homes I own into churches. We’re making this orphanage, and it will be a place where anyone can go,” he said in an [interview](https://metro.co.uk/2021/12/16/kanye-west-says-hell-be-homeless-in-year-as-he-turns-houses-into-churches-15782419/) with 032c, according to *Metro*.
Intention doesn’t always match reality.
All that said, Ye’s grand intentions may not match what’s realistic as a father of four. He and Kim are committed to coparenting and he’s been quite vocal about wanting to reconcile his marriage to Kim, so being close to them may just trump his creative vision.
